TV recording on your computer - file formats

Video file formats

To record multiple channels with one TV card, then you must use the iiv file format.  This is already set as the default.

Imaging PVR can record video in standard avi, wmv format and its own iiv format.  To use the recording with other applications such as Media Player or to edit it, for example, use the avi format.

Convert recordings  to another file  format

Radio

The default for recording radio is MP3.  Right click on the file name in Shows on the Now and Next bar to send it to your MP3 player.

Advantage of iiv file format

  • Record more than one channel with one TV card or watch one channel and record others with the IIV format.  AVI can only tune into one channel at a time.

  • More recordings takes less space as iiv has a smaller file size.

  • User / Control the kids TV viewing is more effective.  If using avi files, computer aware children may use applications such as Windows Media Center or Real Player to open files they cannot see in Imaging PVRwhen Control the kids TV viewing is being used.  Using the iiv file format overcomes this problem as iiv files cannot be opened using other applications.

Convert recordings  to another file format e.g. mp3

Open the Now and Next bar by clicking on Now and Next  > Shows > Right click on the recording > Convert Choose the file type you want.

The default file type for audio files is already MP3 so they are ready for MP3 players without conversion.  You can also convert a TV programme to MP3.  If, for example, you record a concert on TV, you can convert the file to MP3 to listen to it on an MP3 player.

When you convert files, the original file is not replaced.  A new file created alongside the original one.

    Editing recordings

This is not possible from within Imaging PVR.    To edit AVI  video, use one of the many software packages available.
